Héraldique européenne et manuscrits pictographiques mexicains

En algunos manuscritos pictóricos mexicanos de la época colonial, aparecen motivos inspirados en las convenciones plásticas de la heráldica europea. Los tlacuilos toman elementos o blasones completos y les dan otro significado, adaptándolos al sistema tradicional indígena, en el que existía una codificación simbólica y emblemática comparable a la de Europa. En este artículo se estudian varios ejemplos de blasones reales, en seis códices de distintas fechas, del siglo XVI al XVIII, empleados para simbolizar sendos documentos de tierras comunales: Cédulas o Cartas reales, que daban derechos de propiedad de la tierra a los pueblos de indios.Downloads
