Manik [Manik']. El séptimo día del calendario maya

El séptimo día del calendario mesoamericano, se llama en el maya yucateco manik y en el náhuatl mázatl. El primero tiene por signo una mano en actitud de agarrar, con significado lingüístico desconocido; el segundo tiene por signo la pata, las astas o la cabeza de un ciervo, con obvio significado lingüístico, de "ciervo". El autor no dilucida el significado recto de manik; pero ensaya aclarar su semántica, llegando a la conclusión de que simboliza el sacrificio de la vida de un ser a una divinidad y que el elemento ma- está en voces que significan ciervo, mano, caza, prender, agarrar, sujetar, red, en ambas lenguas.Downloads
