Abstract

This article tries to reconstruct, at least in its more visible manifestations, the ethnic identity patterns built by a voluminous compound of primary sources which stem from colonial power holders and authorities at Córdoba del Tucumán (at that time in the extreme south of the Viceroyalty of Perú) during the 16th and 17th century. These ethnic constructions can be explained when attention is paid to the specific social, political and economic conditions that produce these patterns.
