Abstract

This paper presents preliminary results of archaeological research in a Late Muisca cemetery in the Sabana de Bogotá, Colombia. It is suggested that the incidence of pathologies associated with anemia was even between members buried with the richest offerings and the rest of the population. It is also suggested, however, that the individuals with the richest burials had a lower incidence of hypoplasia, which is related to severe periods of malnutrition. The results to date suggest that the nutritional benefits of elite membership were restricted only to periods of severe difficulties in access to resources.
