This work is based on the hypothesis that the higher the intensity of heterogeneity, population density, and cultural diversity in an urban space, the higher the degree of social fragmentation. In this fragmented situation, a ritual unfolded whose strategy is to foment social unity among megalopolitans. This study discusses the specific case of the Carnival of Huitzizilapan that traditionally takes place in the municipality of Lerma. The municipality is located between the two metropolises in the valleys of Toluca and Mexico in central Mexico.Downloads
