Abstract

This article analyses the first visita and land composition process in Charcas
through the residencia of don Pedro Osores de Ulloa as an inspector of land titles. In that sense, it discusses the impact of the residencia as a significant instance in the construction of local power, leading to methodological reflections about the uses of its legal discourse. Finally, it examines the tensions and sense disputes settled around the temporality and the jurisdictional space of the visita and land composition process, as they are contained in the charges and the residenciado’s defense, showing the residencia as a conflictive space.
