Abstract

This paper discusses the phonographic recordings of popular and indigenous
music made by the German anthropologist Robert Lehmann-Nitsche (1872-1938), head of the Museum de La Plata’s Department of Anthropology in Argentina. The paper examines the incorporation of new technologies in data collection processes and the inclusion of Lehmann-Nitsche’s research in the musical cartography projects carried out by the Berlin Phonogramm-Archiv.
