Abstract

The conquest of the Maya lowlands was not completed until the 18th century. In this space, called ‘la Montaña’ by the Spaniards, there lived and coexisted diverse populations in direct or indirect contact with the colonial society. These Maya groups exchanged various goods along trade routes over land, rivers and sea. The analysis of the exchange network in the ‘Montaña’ allows us to develop new hypotheses regarding the history of the region and better understand the process of conquest of their populations.
