Abstract

The study presented here suggests the existence of a new inchoative suffix in the inscriptions of the Las Monjas architectural complex at Chichen Itza, Mexico, that has not been previously described by epigraphers. The main reason for this omission lies in the problems with the morphological segmentation in earlier works on these glyphic texts. The new analysis expands our knowledge about the grammar of Mayan hieroglyphs and probably has some implications that go beyond linguistics to the field of archaeology.
