Abstract

In times of political instability, the group that holds power must modify, reinvent or create different strategies that allow it to maintain supremacy and legitimacy vis-à-vis other segments with which it establishes power relations. In this way, I intend to analyze some examples of dance embodied in the monuments of Yaxuun Bahlam IV of Yaxchilan, who acceded to power after a period of political instability known as ‘interregnum’ (742-752 AD). The purpose is to show how this activity was used by the ruler as a strategy to legitimize his government and establish alliances and political negotiations with other members of the elite.
