In the course of their second journey (1895-1897), Eduard Seler and Caecilie Seler-Sachs visited the Mexican state of Chiapas and the Republic of Guatemala in order to study archaeological sites and assemble collections of objects for the Königliches Museum für Völkerkunde in Berlin, Germany. This article gives a summary of the journey, examines the different ways of collecting and documenting Indigenous cultures in Chiapas and Guatemala, and presents examples of drawings and photographs related to the trip that are now in the estate of Eduard Seler in the Ibero-Amerkanisches Institut in Berlin.
