Abstract

The aim of this article is to offer an initial description and analysis of the material preserved at the Fondo Lenz, kept by the Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación in Santiago de Chile, and mainly among the Franz Boas Papers of the American Philosophical Society, concerning the exchange of letters between the German-Chilean linguist Rodolfo Lenz and the German-American anthropologist Franz Boas, from 1896 to 1931. It consists of a corpus of 17 letters, in which both scientists exchange materials and information on the development of their research, especially regarding the study of language and culture of the native peoples of the American continent, as well as the development and challenges in the production of proper conditions for the progress of research on such scientific subjects.
