Abstract

This article discusses the calendar and continuity of the New Fire ritual in the Ñuu Savi, a ritual that was widely known in pre-colonial Mesoamerica and is still performed today in Santo Tomás Ocotepec and Villa de Tututepec de Melchor Ocampo, two historically significant communities in Oaxaca, Mexico, that continue to reenact this ritual of renewal each year.
