About the Journal

1. Focus and Scope

IBEROAMERICANA is an interdisciplinary journal of literature, history and social sciences aimed at an international scientific readership. From the perspective of different disciplines and bearing in mind current debates, IBEROAMERICANA contributes to the analysis of the history, literature, cultural life and socio-political dynamics of Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal, acting as a bridge between research undertaken in different academic fields and regions.

IBEROAMERICANA publishes contributions of high academic calibre presenting the results of innovative research. Papers that transcend national frontiers and disciplines are particularly welcome, as well as those that employ comparative approaches or which adopt a position in relation to international and regional debates, contributing to the renewal of their particular fields.

2. Sections

IBEROAMERICANA is comprised of four sections:

Dossier, focusing on a special subject dealt with simultaneously by various disciplines and made up of original articles that are the fruit of scientific research;

Articles and Essays, containing original scientific contributions by researchers at the forefront of their fields;

Forum for Debate, containing shorter original contributions presenting rigorous analysis of contemporary problematics relevant to the regional and disciplinary subject area;

Notes. Iberoamerican Reviews, containing reviews and original bibliographic articles dealing with significant publications and research on literature, history and social sciences.

IBEROAMERICANA is published by the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut Preußischer Kulturbesitz (Berlin) in collaboration with the GIGA Institute for Latin American Studies (Hamburg) and the publisher Iberoamericana/Vervuert (Madrid/Frankfurt am Main).

3. Peer Review Process

The contributions published in the sections Dossier and Articles and Essays are subject to a process of peer review by mostly external experts. Articles should be sent to Iberoamericana. The submission should fully comply with the guidance for authors.

After receipt, all submissions are subject to an initial review to determine if they comply with the requirements set out in the Guidelines for Authors. Secondly, the papers are examined according to the academic and thematic profile of the journal.

If they pass this review, submissions are sent for peer review to at least two specialists. This process is a double blind peer review, so reviewers will not know the identity of the author nor will the author know the identity of the reviewers. Where reviewers make different recommendations, all points of view will be taken into account, additional reports may be requested and the Editorial Board will make the final decision.

The possible outcomes of this review are: 1) accepted, 2) rejected or 3) resubmission recommended after carrying out proposed modifications. In this latter case, the author will have the opportunity to correct the article and resubmit it for further review.
