Transcending frontiers: Caquiaviri and Miguel de Santiago

Two cities barely far one another, such as Caquiaviri and Quito are spiritually connected by the same graphic font used for the diffusion of a Christian idea difficult to understand, the Immaculate Conception. In the Andean region during the colonial period, the circulation of certain images as models, given with engravings that could be found as cut sheets or books, were often reinterpreted according to criteria that sought to build a speech in correspondence with doctrinal matters of local needs and taste. The engraving source, we have discovered, will guide our purposes to understand the ideological complexity why these two colonial societies make their images using transformations, elisions or added issues to one common starting point.
