New Generations and Leaders to Power: From the 2011 Student Movement to the First Broad Front Government in 2022

Abstract

In 11 years, the generation that led the most important student mobilizations in 2011, today comes to power with the President Gabriel Boric, one of its most visible leaders. The main objective of this paper is to understand the leadership of the main actors of the new government from 2011 to the present day. As secondary objectives, it seeks to analyze the transformations of these leaders in their political speeches from 2011 to date. Second, to study the major membership organizations from 2011 to date and, finally, to understand how these student leaders managed to come to power in 11 years. The research methodology is qualitative and is based on secondary sources, from written and digital media, papers, and books, as well as interviews with actors of said movement between 2011 and 2021.
