The exile of many personalities with institutionist roots in Argentina and the United States led to an evolution of the so-called Spanish liberal nationalism. In this context, the anthology El concepto contemporáneo de España (1946), edited by Ángel del Río and M. J. Benardete, was published by Losada publishing company in Buenos Aires. The analysis of this anthology and the accompanying explanatory texts, as well as the motivations and publishing processes –traceable through the correspondence between anthologists and editors– are the focus of this article, in which we aim to propose, from new perspectives, a reflection on the construction of Spanish liberal nationalism from the American exile.
