When the Unidad Popular came to power in Chile in 1970, the country was extremely divided. A battle of opinions was waged in particular in the medium of the political cartoon. According to the new government, a “new man” had to be formed. The state publishing house Quimantú was to play an important role in this project, publishing various series of cartoons in the service of the objective of forming the socialist consciousness of the people. How was the struggle against cultural imperialism carried out in the Quimantú publishing house? What role did comics play in this and why were they a preferred medium?
