This article addresses a set of films from the 1970s and 1980s directed by women filmmakers from Argentina and Chile who were forced into exile in various countries in the Western European region or the Global North, following the establishment of regional
civil-military dictatorships. To develop this analysis, I establish connections with the filmographies of European –primarily German– women directors. This aims to understand the specificities of their aesthetic procedures, while considering the impact of exile in the
cinematography of the period from a gender and transnational perspective. Situating the epistemological contributions of materialist feminism, I recognize the dynamics of the body in filmic space and deviations from realism as central aspects for approaching these films.
