Abstract
This article focuses on the links between political and cultural democratization in in 1920s Argentinean periodical publications, in an historical context characterized by two phenomena: the entrance of the masses into political representation and the emergence of a cultural industry. While mass-culture publications (tango and drama magazines) took advantage of the new aspirations that democracy and commercial matters relentlessly triggered the wide readership, periodical publications of the “new generation” tended to censor those aspirations, showing a persistent will of hierarchy and control.
