Abstract
The drama of Exile dramaturgy involves questions regarding public, place and time. The loss of natural sceneries shifted the centre to the periphery and, in the forties, cities like Buenos Aires and Mexico were the capitals of this dramaturgy, hosting premieres of works by Alberti, Casona and García Lorca. The production of such works during Francoism or the Transition is the starting point for a reflection on some key issues: how those works were perceived inside Spain; what dysfunctions were caused by the lack of a standard stage practice; what effects this delayed reception has had, and, to sum up, what space, and under which conditions, can this dramaturgy occupy in current historiography.
