With the help of recent archaeoastronomical research a special way of orienting architectural structures has been identified in Mesoamerica. Most major pyramids and palaces are oriented to the sunrise or sunset on dates that are determined through day counts defined by the configuration of the calendrical system. This has allowed some colonial cities in Mexico, founded on Prehispanic settlements, to retain such orientations in their urban layout. In this paper we illustrate several examples of this kind of city.Downloads
