Resumo

Linguists disagree on the number of imperfective paradigms used in Navaho. Young and Morgan think that there are five or even six different types; according to Sapir and Hoijer thero are three whereas Krauss and Stanley reduce the number to two. An examination of the problem shows that one must differentiate between at least four paradigms. The second person singular is recommended as a starting-point for the classification as in this case most variants of form exist.
