Abstract

This study aims to understand the educational experiences of Afro-Latin Americans living in Spain through the lens of anti-Blackness. Thus, educational experiences are approached as privileged situations from which to understand the role of anti-Blackness and its relationship with the formation of gender and sexual identities for Afro-Latinos in Spain. To this end, a qualitative methodology was designed that combined three core elements: semi-structured interviews with people of Afro-Latino origin who live or have lived in Spain and its educational institutions, documentary analysis, and narratives associated with the personal experiences of the research team. The proposed approach led to the conclusion that the educational experiences of Afro-Latinos are part of the social system that constructs sex-gender differences that fuel anti-Black narratives and structures in Spain.
